Internet cafes in China have been officially banned from allowing entry to children under the age of 16. According to the Xinhua News Agency, the new regulations issued by the Chinese government, come into force on November 15, 2002.

Under the new statute, Internet cafes can only operate between the hours of 8:00 and midnight.

Offenders who flout the new regulations risk a fine of USD1,800 and could have their operating licences cancelled.
