Jul 10 2001: Europemedia reports that the online advertising spend in Italy increased by 368 percent during 2000.

This data from the Internet Advertising Observatory of Lab Italia. Last year’s spend reached ITL267 billion (EUR140 million), up from ITL10billion (EUR5 million) in 1998.

Sixty-three percent of all online advertising spending in Italy last year went on banners, while 19 percent went on online sponsorships, and 18 percent on email campaigns.

The biggest spenders on online advertising are firms in the telecoms and financial services sector. They accounted for 19 percent of the total online ad spend.

Growth is expected to slow considerably in this sector in 2001, with the overall annual growth rate down to between 15 and 25 percent.
