Jul 12 2001: Europemedia reports that the number of email messages sent outside the US surpassed Europemedia: US no longer dominates email
Jul 12 2001: Europemedia reports that the number of email messages sent outside the US surpassed the number sent within the US for the first time last year.
This is according to a study from United Messaging, which says that 51 percent of all email messages last year were sent outside the US.
The total number of electronic mailboxes in the world reached 891 million last year, and 31.8 million of those were wireless mailboxes, up from 3.7 million in 1999. Only 7 percent of these were in the US.
SMS messaging was excluded from the study, as SMS is a GSM technology rather than an email technology.
